To Rhett  ...

Keeper of the Stars

It was no accident, me finding you.  Someone had a hand in it,
long before we ever knew...

I know I don't deserve a treasure like you.

There really are no words,
to show my gratitude.

I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars.

He sure knew what He was doin',
when He joined these two hearts.

I hold everything, when I hold you in my arms.

I've got all I'll ever need.  Thanks to the keeper of the stars.

Rhett came to me because my mom, who had passed away 18 months earlier, knew I needed him.  One day driving home from work she whispered in my ear, "Call the breeder.  He's having a litter in 3 weeks."  I searched the house for the piece of paper I'd written the breeder's name and number on a year earlier and when I called it was no surprise when Patrick Jones, of Ravin Dalmatians, told me "Funny you should call, because I'm having a litter in 3 weeks."  From the time I brought the handsome puppy home he made his sole purpose in life clear ... it was to be with me with a love and devotion that words cannot express and a loyalty that meant he never expressed them with anyone else.  He quickly earned his nickname, Bug, which was short for Cuddle-Bug and Love-Bug because that was how he was with me.  He was cordial, dignfied and kind with others (humans and dogs alike) but was honest and true ... never feigning love and devotion to anyone but me.

He was everything anyone could want in a companion ...completely and utterly devoted, funny, dignified, confident, strong, protective and handsome.

Looking back I've realized I never once had to call him back to me ... not in the dog parks, not out on hikes or horseback riding, not on the beach ... never!  He was always where he wanted to be when he was with me.  So, you can imagine how almost impossible it was to get him to leave me.  It took 5 ruptures of his arteries and spleen, due to Hemangiosarcoma (cancer), over the period of about a month before Rhett would leave me to join our Angel Blanca to wait for me.  He fought with all his strength and heart to stay with me, but in the end he finally listented to God calling him home and left with my heart too.

This much I know too ... that when he runs up to greet Blanca he will notice I'm not there, and turn to look for me, as he's done his entire life.  It will seem like only a instant for him but he'll see me and we'll be together again ... forever this time.  But for me, it will seem like 1,000 years before my heart is whole again and we are all reunited.

Is it possible to have a love story that isn't about a man and a woman?  Because of Rhett I would have to say yes...
I Cross My Heart

Our love is unconditional, we knew it from the start.
I see it in your eyes, you can feel it from my heart.
From here on after let's stay the way we are right now,
And share all the love and laughter, that a lifetime will allow.

I cross my heart and promise to
Give all I've got to give to make all your dreams come true.
In all the world, you'll never find a love as true as mine.

You will always be the miracle that makes my life complete,
And as long as there's a breath in me, I'll make yours just as sweet.
As we look into the future, it's as far as we can see,
So let's make each tomorrow be the best that it can be.

I cross my heart and promise to
Give all I've got to give to make all your dreams come true.
In all the world you'll never find a love as true as mine.

My first show dog, and an incredible introduction to showing ... he made it fun and effortless.  I went to shows and knew each weekend I showed him he'd come back with at least a WD and point(s).  If he didn't sweep the weekend, he was WD one day and RWD the other.  I honestly thought it was always like that for everyone.  This handsome boy turned heads!  His showy attitude, clean down and back, wonderful sidegait, lovely topline and tailset, solid bone, tight feet, along with an ever wagging tail earned him some wonderful wins in the show ring including 3 majors as well as multiple BOB (and BOS) over specials and a Group placing, all from the classes!  He took that competative nature into the Agility arena as well, earning a Fun Match HIT after only 6 weeks in training, while competing against other dogs in training for over 6 months!  Rhett's was just one of those special dogs that will do anything as best he could, if he thought it would make me happy.

I couldn't have been more pleased with Rhett's first litter, as it was consistently outstanding with several puppies who are showing exceptional potential and are already pointed - including Sparkles and Star who have both finished their Championship!   (See the pages for
Bond, Star, and Sparkles)  I was fortunate enough to have Rhett collected before losing him ... so watch for his last litter in 2009/2010 with Lilly.  I expect a litter very similar to his first, but even more outstanding as Lilly is definitely an improvement on her mommy, Ginger, who was the Dam of his first litter.
